Sore

Finished out the week with a 3 hour run on the single track with Molly this morning.  We hit it really early before Molly had to got to work.  That's right trail running at 6:30 am, how is that for commitment?

Generally as a skier you cross train a lot, between running, biking, roller skiing, paddling, its really easy to mix it up daily.  However all I had was running shoes until friday afternoon so my legs are sore.  I was in Florida the first half of the week running on the beach Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Thursday I ran and max lifted with Molly in the morning, I think that's what really did my legs in (hard squats and lunges after not a lot for 2+ weeks is bad news).  That afternoon I ran in the compression tights, I just flew over that single track.  Friday I drove to grand rapids to pick up all my junk did an easy running combo came back and classic roller skied in the afternoon.  Yesterday morning I hit up the track for a short hard speed work out, and then ran probably close to 20 miles this morning.

I've been stretching, because I WILL get more flexible, and rolling, and icing... but those darn stairs all over my house are out to get me.  Time for some more stretching and perhaps a nap.
Peace.

Quick Recap.

I love traveling, and I have fallen for the Western side of the country but alas it is very nice to find myself back home in the Midwest once more.  My body is a tiny bit in shock here, I had been cruising in 90 degree weather and sunshine for weeks out west and in Florida and have come home to what seems like October!  The last two days have barely gotten into the 60s and I haven't seen sun in days... but I'm adjusting and adapting (like my junior coach would always say, "Winners adapt winners adjust...")

I updated my training log yesterday for the first time in nearly three weeks, its always interesting to see how the numbers pan out.  I was in Colorado for a little over two weeks.  We set up camp outside of Winter Park in Granby at roughly 8000 feet.  The goal?  To get some really solid volume training in at altitude, and we did just that.  I had a 16 hour week leading into the real meaty week, and a respectable 12 hour week following it.  The damage of the main week in CO?  Just over 28 hours (not counting any shooting time)!  Total training hours for June this year 72.5, total training hours for June last year 62.75.

There were no easy days, we trained, ate, and slept... we were there to work, work hard, and we got it done.  The highlights of the trip included climbing two 14000 feet peaks (Grays and Torreys), an 80 mile mountain bike ride, and a nice roller ski up Vail Pass.  When the team headed to Colorado Springs to finish out the camp I headed over to Boulder to crash at the Scott's for a few days.  From Boulder I headed to Florida with my mom to visit the grandparents and get some bunch needed lounging on the beach time in.  I feel like Boulder is a national anomaly, a gem, in a way its own world.  Boulder in and of itself is "athletically gifted"...or rather just jam-packed full of athletes.  There are bike paths and bike lanes everywhere, I love it.  I've never seen so many men with shaved legs in my life!  Part of me thinks there are secret requirements to live there, like... being tan, muscular, and having a love for organic produce.  Never the less I wish more places were like Boulder.

Florida was good, lots of sun exposure, several runs on the beach into the sunrise, but I'll enjoy a few more solid weeks of training in the midwest before I adventure out East to Vermont.

Time for some more stretching and tour watching!
Peace.
